Kenyan County Invites Chinese Investment

A Kenyan county on Monday called on Chinese investors to exploit opportunities that exist in infrastructure, agro-processing and tourism.

Officer in Charge of Intergovernmental Coordinator at the Laikipia County Lantano Nabaala told a team of Chinese journalists that investors should tap the full gains of the county's natural resources.

"Laikipia is rated as the fifth county in Kenya to invest in, and one of the best places to visit in the world with an oasis of opportunities in various areas of socioeconomic sector where the people are keen to realize their priorities," Nabaala said.

He said the county, located on the slopes of Mount Kenya, has viable investment opportunities and incentives for joint ventures and sole entrepreneurship that was waiting to be tapped.

The delegation of 15 journalists drawn from Xinhua, CCTV, China Daily and China Radio International, are on a four-day visit to the region at the behest of the local government to explore investment opportunities in the county and sample its tourist attractions.The group visited Equinox Roses, one of the largest producers of cut flowers in the country, where the Managing Director Tom Lawrence said the direct flights between Nairobi and Shanghai would make trade easier.

"I haven't given China a thought as a market for my products, although I think I should give it a try because of the relatively easy connectivity between the two regions," Lawrence said.
